The Amarnath Cave Temple is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Hindus. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for the naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam inside the cave.
The cave is located at an altitude of about 3,888 meters (12,756 ft) in the Himalayas of Anantnag District. Every year thousands of pilgrims undertake the Amarnath Yatra during the summer months.
There are two main trekking routes for the pilgrimage:
- Pahalgam Route – traditional and longer route
- Baltal Route – shorter but steeper route

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
